An Explanation Of How Metro Ethernet Links Datacentres

Metro Ethernet is a valuable and vital tool to enhance business or organization operations. It connects company networks and datacenters to others across town. It also enables them to connect to smaller networks, larger corporate networks, or the internet. Small college campuses are able to connect to their mother campus networks.

Metro Ethernet uses Carrier Ethernet technology to connect people and businesses separated by greater distances. It can be among different campuses or offices, among buildings on one site, or simply within one large building. Ethernet's abilities are enhanced and it can then be used through IP core networks, over SONET/SDH, or Multiprotocol Label Switching networks.

Metro Ethernet utilizes network topology. This topology has individual routers or servers and is connected through fiber optic media or cable. Metro Ethernet is capable of working with multiple speeds of connection. This means companies and institutions may connect to datacenters that have either faster or slower internet connections. It also means there is no fixed bandwidth requirement. All companies find that the Metro Ethernet network is a valuable tool and has many uses. The basic way to describe Metro Ethernet networks is a business at one end of town plugs into the Metro Ethernet connection while a business on the other side of town also plugs into it. Metro Ethernet is basically the same as an Ethernet connection. After installation, maintenance is very simple. Individuals and businesses can spend the added time on more important matters. This enables businesses to have access to each other's datacenters.

High-performance telecommunication networks, such as Metro Ethernet, use a mechanism called Multiprotocol Label Switching to direct and carry data from one network to the next. MPLS labels data then transfers it from one network node to another. This makes creating links between networks simple. Data sent through an Ethernet connection is sent to all network nodes, but the destination node is the only one to respond. This is the reason companies use a Virtual Private Network. This computer network provides individuals and offices secure access to their company's network using public telecommunication, such as the internet. VPN is a small tunnel within a big tunnel. The large one represents the internet connection and the small one is the route the data takes. The VPN encrypts data then sends it to the other computer. No other computer, besides the intended one, can decode this information.

Many companies, institutions, and individuals are using this technology and the numbers are increasing every day. The language is complicated, but the way it works is simple. The word metro comes from the word metropolitan. Individuals connect to the internet via the Ethernet. The emergency room of a hospital, through Metro Ethernet, is able to access the datacenter of a doctor's office across town. A UNI (User-Network Interface) is installed by the service provider for the Ethernet connection. This is the same interface the Metro Ethernet uses. The service connection for the customer is made at the UNI. A path is made between UNIs through the EVC (Ethernet Virtual Connection). A cost effective solution for offices that wish to connect multiple locations within a small geographical location is Metro Ethernet Services.
