Have you tried any of the open source software that can be downloaded for free? There are some very good open source freeware applications readily available, but it is "buyer beware" or end user beware. Ask yourself, why is it free? Often times these programs are research prototypes that are still in development or are now being used to test a market. And the quality could vary greatly.
I saw on a Forum that I go to a lot about a completely free registry repair that is coming from an open or group contribution project, so I sorted out. And I found it to be Cost-free but very hard to locate. I could merely get to it to download through a web-site that was striving to sell me various other registry cleaners, anti-spy ware, anti-viruses, and the like., that were not free. I even went into one website which sells a registry cleaner thinking I was leading to the free open source site. It was very much confusing and I felt like I was going through a MAZE of "for sell" stuff to be able to find the "free" stuff. You have possibly been there too.
Even with my understanding of how countless websites work, I still clicked on which registry cleaner link that, once again, said blatantly - free registry repair. However when I got into the website it had such a look of a site that could be asking for my credit card information real soon, that I backed out to the initial page. I finally found the link - although a very inconspicuous link - that brings about the real free, open contribution site.
I ran this free registry cleaner on an old model computer with success. And it did not ask for my credit card just before it would repair the errors the scan had found. However that is not the whole story as well. I am not listing the site information mainly because I do not recommend this software and I'd like to tell you why.
First, the free registry repair software had not been updated for over 6 months, which is a life-time on the Internet. Also, it did not really offer a backup neither did it give me a promise of having the ability to undo anything that the software did to my computer.
I would never have used this software on your personal computer. I did run it on mine, yet only after doing a backup for myself. And the free registry fixer did OK. It found a good many mistakes and repaired them. Right after the free program had finished I ran yet another registry cleaner right behind it and sure enough, it had done a great job. But because of the insufficient security and updating, I do not really think I will apply it again. I don't think it is worth it.
