Keeping The Safety In Your Families Internet Use

If you are a parent or even a grandparent then you in all probability have seen that children of all ages love to hop on the web to surf the web and even play some games. Online play and even research can be great fun and an excellent source of both entertainment and information but it can also be a bit nerve racking when you think of young children having access to the full range of content that's available on the internet.

Since the internet is a tool for children of all ages you most likely will want to install some type of parental controls on your child's internet surfing and be sure that they only can access those internet sites with content that is age appropriate. Many computers have a parental control setting already built in like with the television. There is also usually a way to block content directly through your Internet provider as well.

While blocks work well, they cannot limit all that your children can access on the web. These blocks usually can identify pornographic content as well as overly violent content but there are still some things that may slip through these filtering devices. Another way to create a safety net that will allow you to find out what your children are accessing on the Internet is to install a key logger device into your computer.

A key logger is something that you can purchase at a computer supply store or more easily you can purchase and download from an online source. Its purpose is not specifically to block any specific content but it is designed to see what a person views and what they type while they are online which is particularly helpful to put you in touch with what your kids are doing while they are online and you are not around.

Since this type of program is completely invisible it's something that only you will know is there and it is password protected which essentially means that you are going to be the only one who can access it. It's going to let you know who they are talking to, what web sites they are visiting, and will even let you access chat room conversations. This can really help you obtain a feel for exactly what your child, teen, or young adult is doing on the web. Having this information available means that you can allow your child to use the web unattended and still know exactly what is going on.

Every family with children needs to make sure that they are doing everything possible to make sure that their children are safe when they are surfing and playing on the home computer. Don't just assume that everything is on the up and up or that your children are going to make good choices. Just as with anything else your children will test the waters if you allow them to so rather than take a chance it is best to put blocks and spy ware in place to limit and keep an eye on what they are up to.
