July 2011- AT&T stepped up to be the first telecommunications company to sign on with Bloom Energy for new electric power. The two companies signed an agreement today that eleven new technology electric generators will be built in sites across California

This break through technology utilizes research from NASA to have energy generators on other planets. Bloom servers are a solid oxide fuel cell that takes advantage of its ability to only allow oxygen pass in one direction and a standard fuel such as natural gas on the other side to create energy. The Bloom boxes are expected to deliver 7.5 Mw of clean reliable and cost affective power that has 50% less CO2 emission of standard power generators.

"AT&T is committed to finding more sustainable ways to power our business operations as part of our efforts to incorporate alternative energy. Alternative energy is a crucial part of our energy portfolio. Bloom Energy provided us with a solution that was not only cost comparable but additionally allows us to minimize environmental impact," said John Schinter, the spokes person from AT&T.

Once all eleven of the new Bloom Energy servers are in full operation the expected annual electricity production should top 62 million kilowatt hours (kwh). This is more than the amount of electricity consumed by 5,500 typical homes in the United States. The first cities planned to receive these servers are Corona, Fontana, Hayword, Pasedena, and others in California.

"Bloom Energy is delighted to be working with AT&T to provide clean reliable electricity," said Bill Thayer, from Bloom Energy. "With a shared vision of reliability, environmental stewardship, and innovation, Bloom Energy and AT&T's collaborative efforts are certain to make an impact in their facilities in California."

The major advantage to the environment is the amount of reduction in CO2 emmission by this program is said to be over 240 million pounds. This is equivalent to the reduction felt by removing 3500 cars from the streets of America

The bigger story of AT&T is its dedication in 2010 to deliver three million KWH annually by solar or alternative energy production sources in the year 2011. Plus they have 19 other plans in the making
